Delgado Community College Delgado Community College 

The Electrocardiographic (EKG) Technician, C.T.C. program at Delgado Community College is a six-credit hour program.

Students take one course for each of the two required semesters. 

The first three-hour course that students take is Introduction to Electrocardiography.

The second course that students are required to take is Electrocardiography II.  

The program provides students with the knowledge and skills to perform diagnostic tests and to assess the patient’s heart rhythm and heart rate.

They also learn how to process data and clean EKG equipment. 

The school does not list its exact tuition. It points out that the tuition rate at Delgado Community College is about one-third that of other colleges. 

Louisiana State University Shreveport Louisiana State University Shreveport 

The EKG Technician program offered by the Louisiana State University Shreveport is an online program.

Students who enroll in the program learn the anatomy and physiology of the heart.

They learn the proper placement of leads and learn about the technology that is used to perform EKG tests and stress tests. 

Students can participate in an optional volunteer externship opportunity.

They learn EKG/ECG administration, interpretation of cardiac rhythm, and equipment maintenance and operation.  

Acceptance into the college does not guarantee acceptance into the Electrocardiograph Technician program.

Applicants must submit the required documentation before consideration for admission to the program. 

Students must have a high school diploma or a GED.

They need to have a physical exam. 

Applicants must submit proof of a TB test and required immunizations.

They also need to submit a criminal background check. 

The tuition for the program is $900 plus additional costs.
