How to Become a Plumber in Wyoming – Step by Step

Wyoming doesn’t issue plumbing licenses on a state level.

All plumbing licenses in Wyoming are issued at a municipal level.

Aside from the municipal license requirements, the journey to becoming a plumber is similar in most cities.

You must obtain the required training and then you can go on to apply for one of the licenses the city issues.

Most cities in Wyoming issue a Journeyman and a Master plumber license.

In this article, we’ll focus on the process of becoming a plumber in Casper.

How to Become a Plumber In Casper

To begin your plumbing journey in Casper City you must be at least 18 years old.

You must also have a High School Diploma or the GED equivalent.

You can obtain your training by:

  • enrolling in a Board-approved apprenticeship program
  • working directly under the supervision of an already licensed professional, who will also be your mentor
  • enrolling in a technical or community college/vocational school/plumbing-specific program

Formal education is not necessary to be eligible to apply for a plumbing license, however, it is a big plus for your career.

As soon as you begin your training you must apply and pay the $3 fee to the City of Casper’s Community Development Department to register as an apprentice plumber.

You should submit your application at least 10 days before the Contractor’s Board meeting, which meets on the third Thursday of each month.

As soon as the Board approves your application you will be considered as a licensed apprentice plumber.

There is no examination for the apprentice plumbers, the only requirement is that you renew your license annually until you complete your training.

Apprenticeships in Casper usually last for 4-years before you can go on and apply for the Journeyman License.

Journeyman Plumbing License in Casper

To apply for the Journeyman Plumber License you must have at least 4 years (8,000 hours) of experience as an apprentice.

You must submit the application form and pay the $25 application fee to the City of Casper’s Community Development Department.

After they approve your application you will go on to take the Journeyman Plumbing exam.

To pass the exam you need a score of 75% or higher.

If you have passed the exam you will go on to receive your Journeyman Plumber license.
